Please describe your leadership style in three words.
Proven, Qualified, Effective
Describe the skills that make you the best candidate for the job.
Using my public safety experience, my experience as a military veteran, my experience of being a husband and a father and my on the job experience as the incumbent, I have led Ward 4 these past four years with the goal of putting the voices of Thornton residents first. Thornton needs a strong leader, a strong voice, to move Thornton forward. I believe I am that person.
Please list your top three priorities if elected.
Public safety, our veterans, and our roads.
Discuss economic growth in your community. How can you balance economic opportunity with current residents' desire to preserve their way of life?
Our city is growing. The entire North Metro area is growing. As elected members of council we have to closely monitor that balance as to not encroach on the quality of life of our current residents.
Would you put limits or regulations on oil and gas developments in the city, or is that something best left to the county, the state or someone else?
Senate Bill 181 expanded the power of local governments to regulate oil and gas. I represent people that are on both sides of this issue and I am cognizant of the arguments for and against. The safety and well-being of my constituents and the City of Thornton is always at the forefront of my decision making. I believe we should regulate oil and gas operations but not in a manner that drives jobs out.

Background: I've been a resident of Thornton for the past 15 years. My wife and I started our family here 10 years ago, and we now have two children in elementary school. I am running for office because I believe we need leaders who will show up for Thornton and who know how to work with others to get to a solution that works.

Collaborative, dedicated and approachable.
I've worked in business in the information technology sector for 25 years as a consultant and a manager. Throughout my career, I've worked with people who have had different ideas about how to solve a problem, so I'm used to working with people who disagree. In the teams I've led, we leveraged diverse ideas, backgrounds, and priorities, to come up with the best solutions possible.
First and foremost, showing up, working well with all of the other council members, and finding common ground. Second, getting to work on implementing SB 19-181 in our city, in a way that protects and benefits our community. Third, looking more closely at the connected issues of small and local business, affordable housing, and transportation.
This is a great question and brings the Eastlake area to mind for me. We have a train station coming that was never intended to be the end of the line and residents there are worried about numerous issues — rightfully so. I plan to listen to the community and ask people who are interested in a new project to empathize with those who will be more greatly impacted by it.
Yes, I believe we have greater responsibility, under SB 19-181, to regulate oil and gas development, particularly through proper zoning. I will push for the highest safety standards for any activity that is near Thornton and ensure that our citizens benefit from whatever takes place.
